Does provincial health insurance cover long-term care?
Provincial plans such as OHIP, MSP, and RAMQ generally cover the medical and nursing portion. Residents pay accommodation. This is not a US public-insurance program.
What is the difference between a long-term care home and a retirement home?
Long-term care homes (CHSLD in Quebec) provide 24-hour nursing. Retirement homes are usually private-pay residences licensed in Ontario by the RHRA. Home care may mix publicly coordinated hours with private extra hours.
